Northfield Township Assessor Nally sworn in

Alida Nally, who topped 28-year incumbent Patty Damisch in the consolidated election last April, was sworn in as Northfield Township assessor on Jan. 4.

Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough did the honors in a ceremony at Grandpa's Place in Glenview.

A former real estate appraiser and small-business owner who had been the township's deputy assessor, in the April 6 consolidated election Nally earned 52.4% of the vote, receiving 7,199 votes to Damisch's 6,530 votes. At the end of voting on the night of the election Nally, led by only 399 votes.

Damisch, running as a Republican, had been Northfield Township assessor since 1993.

A Boston native who has lived in Glenview for more than 20 years, Nally ran Landmark Appraisal before joining the township. She also had been an assistant vice president for the First National Bank of Chicago.

Nally served as treasurer for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Women's Club as well.

The township assessor is a liaison between Northfield Township residents and the Cook County assessor's office, which estimates the market value of property.

Northfield Township, 2550 Waukegan Road, Glenview, serves most of the residents living in Northbrook, Glenview and a part of Northfield.
