Stadler, O'Mera head Glenbrook South swim finals

Glenbrook South divers paced the Titans effort at the Illinois High School Association girls swimming and diving state finals last weekend in Westmont.

Junior Jackie Stadler placed fourth in the diving competition with a score of 442.20, racking up 11 of Glenbrook South's 16 points.

Titans teammate Maddie O'Mera, a senior, placed eighth in diving with a score of 434.20.

Glenbrook North senior Nya Robinson, who earlier in the week committed to Penn State for swimming, placed 10th in the 100-yard freestyle. Robinson swam the distance in 51.74 seconds.

In the longest race of the competition, the 500 freestyle, Glenbrook North senior Kamila Nowak placed 10th at 5 minutes, 3.46 seconds.

Loyola's Maria Cheng had a promising start to her state swimming career. The freshman placed 10th in the 100 backstroke at 56.31 seconds.

The competition was held for the first time at the new FMC Natatorium in Westmont. Since 1980 the finals had rotated between Evanston and New Trier - yet the change of scenery did little to disrupt the state's most successful girls swim program.

New Trier won the meet for a state-best 14th time. The Trevians scored 182 points, 82 points more than second-place finishers Barrington and Hinsdale Central, which each scored 100.

Glenbrook South finished in 17th place with the 16 points gained by divers Stadler and O'Mera.
