The DuPage County Forest Preserve District is offering behind-the-scenes tours of its Urban Stream Research Center at Blackwell Forest Preserve near Warrenville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Visitors will see how ecologists are raising freshwater mussels, federally endangered Hine's emerald dragonflies and other aquatic animals.

Environmental interpreters lead the tours of the center, which is normally not open to the public. Tours leave every 30 minutes and are open to all ages (though youth ages 18 and under must be accompanied by a guardian).

Tours are $5 per person.
