Northbrook, Glenview park districts win IAPD awards

The Illinois Association of Park Districts awarded both the Glenview and Northbrook park districts during its "Best of the Best" awards, announced Sept. 13.

The IAPD chose award winners a pool of entries statewide that recognize park districts, forest preserves, recreation, conservation and special recreation agencies.

The Glenview Park District joined three others in being named for the Intergovernmental Cooperation Award for its participation in the Glenview/Northbrook Coronavirus Task Force. This group, formed on March 3, 2020, to respond to the pandemic, also included the villages of Glenview and Northbrook, Northfield Township, park districts, school districts and libraries, chambers of commerce and NorthShore Glenbrook Hospital.

In the IAPD's Partnership category, the Glenview Park District was among four winners for its Camp Rec program. This camp provided a space and help for parents who did not have daily care for children while schools were in remote learning last year. The park district worked with Wesley Child Care Center, Glenview School District 34, the Glenview Park Foundation, the Glenview Public Library and Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook to provide that help.

The Northbrook Park District was among four honorees for the IAPD's Arts in the Park award, and joined Oak Park and Naperville as winners for Best Green Practices.

Award winners will be recognized At the IAPD Best of the Best Awards Gala on Oct. 15 at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling.
