Students Helping Students drive gathers donations for Northbrook kids in need

On Sunday, recent Glenbrook North grad Erin Nibeck and a team of student volunteers - Ola Zynel, Nicole Helinski, Sammie Gelfeld and Charlie Chemers - collected drop-off donations of personal care items, toiletries, fun snacks and, in some cases cash, outside Westmoor Elementary School.

The donations will benefit Hunger Free Northbrook, an initiative of the Northbrook-based Hunger Resource Network aimed at helping elementary and middle school students on the free and reduced-cost lunch programs in the community.

"The tangible is getting the food and supplies out to people who need it," said Henry Fetta, director and vice president of the Hunger Resource Network.

"But the intangible is getting the message out and helping people realize hunger is an issue even a community like Northbrook is facing."

Fetta and Dan Jariabka, president of the Hunger Resource Network, were on hand helping with the collections.
