Report: NorthShore University HealthSystem ranks among top hospitals in state

Evanston-based NorthShore University HealthSystem — which includes Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview — has been recognized as one of the top hospitals in the state, according to rankings released this week by U.S. News & World Report.

“It is an honor to be recognized for the collaborative care provided at NorthShore for our most complex patients,” said Dr. Lakshmi Halasyamani, Chief Medical Officer at NorthShore. “We are proud of all of the efforts of our front-line providers, team members and those who work behind the scenes to ensure that each patient receives the best possible care, especially during these unprecedented times.”

And that's not the only good news in the report for NorthShore: For the first time, its orthopaedics program is ranked nationally.

“It is great to be acknowledged for the excellent outcomes we are able to achieve for our patients with orthopaedic and spine conditions at the NorthShore Orthopaedic & Spine Institute specialty hospital, the only hospital in Illinois dedicated to orthopaedic and spine conditions,” said David Rahija, president of NorthShore Skokie Hospital, which houses the institute.

Several suburban hospitals, including Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Edward Hospital in Naperville and Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, rank among the 10 best in Illinois, according to rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush University Medical Center, both in Chicago, are the top two in the state and among the top 20 in the country, the report states. More than 4,750 hospitals were evaluated to compile rankings for the 2021-22 Best Hospitals list.

For the sixth consecutive year, Mayo Clinic in Minnesota claimed the No. 1 spot on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll, followed by Cleveland Clinic and UCLA Medical Center. The honor roll features Northwestern at No. 10 and Rush at No. 19 in the country.

Following Northwestern and Rush in the state rankings are University of Chicago Medical Center, Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and NorthShore.

Lutheran General places seventh, followed by Edward Hospital and Good Samaritan. Two hospitals are tied at No. 10: Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana and Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge placed seventh on a list of the top 10 hospitals in Illinois, according to new ratings published by U.S. News & World Report, while Edward Hospital in Naperville, center, was eighth and Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, bottom, was ninth.
