Glenview and Northbrook planning for Independence Day
Glenview and Northbrook both are rolling out their plans for the Fourth of July weekend.
Glenview
The Glenview Park District is now planning to host fireworks on July 4 at Gallery Park. The show will neither be synchronized to music nor have a live musical performance beforehand. .
The park district and village also will host the popular “reverse” parade again. Residents will be able to obtain timed tickets to drive through Community Park West to see stationary “floats” set up by community group. More details about both events and tickets for the “reverse” parade will also be released in June.
Northbrook
With expanded capacity limits under the Bridge Phase of the Restore Illinois Reopening Plan, the Village of Northbrook and the Northbrook Park District have made the joint decision to hold fireworks on the Fourth of July at the traditional location of Meadowhill Park and Techny Prairie Park and Fields. Additional new activities are also taking place Independence Day weekend.
The updated schedule of events for Saturday, July 3, includes the Liberty Loop 5K Race and Liberty Lap Fun Run in the morning at Techny Prairie Parks and Fields; live music at Village Green Park in the afternoon; and a DJ and movie at dusk at the Velodrome at Meadowhill Park.
On Sunday, July 4, residents are encouraged to participate in neighborhood bike parades as a daytime event before the fireworks at dusk.
Residents and businesses are invited to enter a Fourth of July decorating contest. Details on hosting a bike parade and the decorating contest will be available at northbrook4thofJuly.com by mid-June. On July 3-4, Meadowhill Aquatic Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Fourth of July parade, traditional bike parade and fire department softball game will not be held this year.
The Rotary Club of Northbrook is planning to reschedule the pancake breakfast and Rubber Ducky Race to the fall.
