Glenbrook South senior Tina Tsai looks to have another strong outing at the New Trier badminton sectional on Thursday.

Denied a season last spring due to the coronavirus pandemic, badminton will be the first sport this 2020-21 school year to have both a sectional and a state final, the latter slated for March 31-April 1 at Hinsdale South.

Entering sectional seeding, Tsai was 14-4 in Glenbrook South's No. 1 singles slot. Though she'll be competing in singles in the state series, Tsai also was 9-1 in doubles with partner Leah Desserich, a junior. They won the Central Suburban League doubles title on March 19.

In 2019, the last time badminton held a state final, as a sophomore Tsai's 2.5 points in singles helped the Titans to a ninth-place state finish. Tsai went 3-2 during state competition, losing initially to state runner-up Rachel Ye of Fremd before ending her day in a fifth-round consolation match.
