Bears honor Winkelman third-grade teacher

Winkelman third-grade teacher Eric Palanck received an unexpected honor last week from the Chicago Bears delivered by George McCaskey himself (virtually, of course).

The teams' chairman announced Palanck had been named a Bears Champion Teacher.

"It is such an honor to receive this unexpected award," said Palanck. "I'm so grateful to be a member of this community and to be a part of the students' lives as they grow as learners and people. I couldn't be the teacher I am today without my amazing colleagues and students. Also, go Bears!"

The Chicago Bears Classroom Champion Award is given to teachers who go above-and-beyond for their students. Palanck was nominated by colleagues, parents, and students.

The honor only goes to a few Chicago-area teachers.

"District 31 is so proud of Mr. Palanck. He is a very deserving award recipient, and we thank him for all that he has done and continues to do for his students and the entire Winkelman community," said Superintendent Dr. Erin Murphy. "We are so grateful to have such special teachers working for our district."

In addition to $1,000 from the Bears to spend on his classroom, Mr. Palanck will also receive a Bears jersey and football.
