Five more die of COVID-19 in Glenview, Northbrook

Five people in Glenview and Northbrook died of COVID-19 in the past week, and 201 new cases of the disease were diagnosed in the communities, the Cook County public health and medical examiner's offices reported.

In Northbrook, four died during the week ending Tuesday, and 104 new cases were diagnosed.

Since the pandemic began, 102 Northbrook residents have died and 2,444 have tested positive for the coronavirus.

In Glenview, one person died in the week, bringing deaths to 92 since the pandemic began. Glenview has had 3,343 people test positive overall, 97 of them in the past week.

As of Tuesday, suburban Cook County had 209,704 cases and 4,085 deaths, according to the state. In Chicago, there have been 226,184 cases and 4,459 fatalities.

There have been 458,611 COVID-19 cases in the suburbs as of Tuesday. That's 42.6% of the state's total, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. There have been 7,628 deaths in the suburbs, which is 41.7% of all COVID-19 deaths in Illinois.

Total cases stand at 1,076,532 statewide with 18,291 confirmed deaths and 1,862 probable deaths since the pandemic began.
