ATHLETE OF THE WEEK, SPONSORED BY GIOSTAR CHICAGO: GLENBROOK NORTH'S SOFIA GISINER

Glenbrook North senior Sofia Gisiner helped the Teams Elite Junior synchronized skating team to a silver medal for its free program in the 2021 Colonial Classic on Jan. 10.

Featuring teams representing the United States and Europe, the event was held out of Boston, but skaters competed virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. Gisiner has skated with Teams Elite for eight years at its home rink at Northbrook Sports Center, and in 2018 helped Teams Elite become a Team USA program in its inaugural Junior season.

A competitive and dedicated team leader, Gisiner is a counselor for the Northbrook Park District's skating and dance camp. A member of the National Honor Society, in school she is a writing tutor for Glenbrook North's Academic Resource Center.
