Incumbent Democrat wins in House District 81 race

In the House District 81 race, freshman state Rep. Anne Stava-Murray, a Naperville Democrat, pulled out a 2,508-vote victory over Republican challenger Laura Hois.

Early results showed Hois, of Downers Grove, leading late Tuesday, but with all precincts in DuPage and Will counties now reporting, unofficial totals show Stava-Murray garnered 30,557 votes to Hois' 28,049 votes.

Tackling the state's ongoing budget crisis is a priority for Stava-Murray, who said more programs should be implemented to help struggling businesses and families rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic. If elected to a second term, she also hopes to fight climate change and maintain the momentum of the civil rights movement, saying "there's a lot of work left to be done."

District 81 includes parts of Naperville, Woodridge, Bolingbrook, Darien and Downers Grove.
