Democrat Hirschauer wins in House District 49 race

Democrat Maura Hirschauer, of Batavia, won against Republican North Aurora Trustee Laura Curtis in the 49th District.

Hirschauer earned 27,372 votes to Curtis' 23,592 votes, unofficial totals show.

Incumbent state Rep. Karina Villa ran in the Senate District 25 race.

During the campaign, Hirschauer, a former elementary school teacher, said families are struggling with children who are learning remotely and lack of access to affordable, safe child care to be able to get back to work. She supports testing and contact tracing so schools can safely open.

The 49th District encompasses parts of Aurora, Bartlett, Batavia, Elgin, Geneva, Naperville, North Aurora, South Elgin, St. Charles, Warrenville, Wayne, and West Chicago.
