Glenbrook District 225 approves tentative budget for 2020-21

Glenbrook High School District 225 administrators presented a balanced budget proposal for 2020-21 to the school board Monday night for review.

The tentative budget projects a little more than $1.4 million in direct expenditures. Included in the proposed budget is a one-time transfer of $1.5 million from the Operations and Maintenance Fund to the Capital Projects Fund to support approved facility modernization, including upgrades to the nurse's office at each school.

“As a result of long-term prudent financial management, the school district is able to present a balanced budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business Dr. R.J. Gravel. “This budget provides the financial resources necessary to support our excellent academic and extracurricular programs, while also providing for anticipated expenditures related to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The board also reviewed the previous fiscal year as part of the discussion. Based on preliminary, unaudited figures, the district anticipates an increase to fund balance which will be presented as part of the final budget presentation in September.

The tentative budget for 2020-21 will be posted on the district's website for public viewing July 29. The community will have an opportunity to provide input on the tentative budget during a public hearing at the regularly scheduled board meeting at 7 p.m. September 14 in the Glenbrook High School District Office, 3801 W. Lake Ave., Glenview. In addition, the budget will be available for public viewing at the District Office reception desk, Suite 101A, for at least 30 days.

The Board is expected to adopt the final budget during the business portion of its meeting on September 14.
