Search for West Chicago woman who was swept away by river continues

Search efforts continued Monday for a missing West Chicago woman with autism who was swept away by the DuPage River last Friday while walking her dogs.

Anna DeJong, 18, was attempting to cross a flooded pedestrian bridge in Winfield. A Winfield Fire Protection District representative said Monday that the department continues to use drone flights in its search.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family of DeJong. Anna's father, Dave DeJong, is a single dad whose photography business, struggling for a number of years, has been all but decimated by the COVID-19 lockdown order. His other daughter, Kathryne, who also lives with him, has had a brain tumor on her hypothalamus since age 3.
