Gurnee, Island Lake men identified as wrong-way crash victims
The two men killed in a wrong-way crash early Thursday in Wauconda have been identified as Island Lake and Gurnee residents.
Kyle DeKruif, 25, of Island Lake, and Montana Brown, 24, of Gurnee, died in the crash, the Lake County coroner's office announced Friday.
They were in a Honda Odyssey headed south in the northbound lanes of Route 12 about 2:15 a.m. when it collided head-on with a delivery truck near Route 59, Wauconda police said.
DeKruif was driving the Odyssey. Brown was a passenger in the Odyssey.
Autopsies revealed both men suffered blunt force injuries, Coroner Howard Cooper said in a news release. Toxicology results are pending.
The driver of the delivery truck was injured but survived.
Video from a red light camera showed the Odyssey had turned onto Route 12 from Bonner Road, more than a mile north of the crash site, police said Friday.
Wauconda police, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the coroner's office continue investigating the crash.
