Westmont man charged with burglarizing two Hinsdale homes, stealing car

Bail was set at $100,000 Monday for a Westmont man accused of multiple crimes.

Dustin Petty, 48, faces two counts of residential burglary, one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and one count of identity theft.

According to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, at about 10 p.m. March 21, Hinsdale police were called about a suspicious person on the 100 block of Lincoln Avenue.

Petty is accused of ringing the doorbell, then covering the doorbell camera. The homeowner told police they saw someone peek in through a window.

While police were at that house, a second call came from a home on the 100 block of Washington Street, saying someone had entered the home.

Court records indicate Petty is charged with burglarizing two homes on Washington.

He was arrested by Westmont police at a gasoline station.

The release said Petty had two cellphones, a credit card and an identification card belonging to a victim, and also said a Jeep Wrangler belonging to that victim was in the parking lot of the gasoline station.

On March 15, Petty was charged with burglary, criminal trespass to vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was accused of entering two vehicles in Westmont around 2 a.m., including one where he was trying to take some keys, according to DuPage County court records. He was released from jail the next day on a $25,000 personal-recognizance bond.
