Endorsement: Wehrli for Republicans in DuPage Forest Preserve District 5

Two familiar faces - Mary Lou Wehrli of Naperville and Carl Schultz of Aurora - are butting heads again this spring in the Republican primary for the District 5 seat on the DuPage Forest Preserve Commission and the chance to face Democrat Barbara O'Meara in November.

This is the third time the two have competed for the same seat. Wehrli wrested in from Schultz in 2012 after Schultz had held it for 10 years beginning in 2002.

Both candidates have been around long enough to have a firm grasp on the issues, but neither is teeming with fresh ideas.

Wehrli, stresses her independence on the board; Schultz says that independence has not translated into accomplishment and the district, which covers all or parts of Aurora, Lisle, Naperville, Warrenville and Woodridge, has lacked a strong voice since he left.

Wehrli has lived up to her promise by questioning the status quo, and Schultz does not present a compelling case for why he should rejoin the board. Wehrli is endorsed.
