New leader coming for Edward Hospital in Naperville as Kottmann retires

Edward Hospital in Naperville will have a new longtime health executive as its leader come Oct. 1.

Hospital President and CEO Bill Kottman of Naperville is retiring Sept. 30, and Joe Dant of Batavia will fill his position, Edward-Elmhurst Health announced Wednesday.

Kottmann, who has been the hospital's top executive since July 2016, said in a news release he is retiring to relax, take on new challenges and spend more time with his family and friends.

Dant, 54, will be promoted to become Edward's president and CEO from his position as executive vice president of the physician and ambulatory network for Edward-Elmhurst Health.

To fill his role, Dr. Sanjeeb Khatua, 39, of Naperville, will step up from working as vice president and chief medical officer for Edward Hospital.

The leadership changes come after the hospital has seen "significant growth" in its network of off-site services, such as physician offices, immediate care facilities, walk-in clinics and physical therapy sites, under Kottmann's leadership, Edward-Elmhurst Health System CEO Mary Lou Mastro said in a news release.

Kottmann worked for the health system for 28 years, taking on roles as an executive in human resources, operations and joint ventures.

Kottmann "contributed significantly to the development and growth of many of our key service lines," Mastro said. "Bill is a trusted and accomplished leader recognized for his vision, business acumen, collaborative approach and accessibility."

Dant, meanwhile, is a health care executive who has worked in strategic and business roles for Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, Kish Health System in DeKalb and Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin. He was an officer in the Navy from 1987 to 1991 and has a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master's in business administration from Benedictine University in Lisle. He joined Edward-Elmhurst Health in 2017.

Khatua, who will take on the work of developing Edward's network of physicians and ambulatory locations beginning Oct. 1, will continue to serve as chief physician executive for the Edward-Elmhurst Health system.

He is a family medicine physician who has a master's degree in public health from Loma Linda University, a master's in business administration with a focus on health care management from Loyola University Chicago and a medical degree from the Medical University of Silesia.
