Addison teen accused of threatening teacher at Roselle school

A former student at Roselle's Lincoln Academy has been placed on home detention after being accused of threatening a teacher at the school, authorities said Friday.

DuPage County Judge Anthony Coco ordered the detention for the 14-year-old, who lives in Addison.

Authorities say the youth called the school at 7:55 a.m. Thursday and threatened to shoot one of the staff members. School officials called Addison police, who identified the juvenile and took him into custody that afternoon at his home.

"Any threat of violence aimed at a school will immediately be investigated and if found credible, will be charged accordingly," DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "Teachers can't teach and students can't learn if they are in fear for their safety while at school."

Addison Director of Police Bill Hayden said, "The well-being of our children and those who teach them remains a top priority of my administration. Because of this commitment, the Addison Police Department takes any threat, real or perceived, directed at our students and school personnel extremely seriously."
