Former fitness trainer in Glen Ellyn convicted of sexual abuse of a minor

A former fitness trainer has been convicted of two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor after a trial in DuPage County.

Gregory Dacanay, 42, of Wheaton now will be sentenced to probation or three to seven years in prison on May 2.

Despite the conviction, Dacanay remains free on $100,000 bail after Judge Liam Brennan denied prosecutors' request to revoke the bail. Dacanay is also prohibited from having contact with any children younger than 17.

Prosecutors say the abuse of the 16-year-old boy occurred on April 14 at Health Track Sports Wellness, 875 Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn. Dacanay was an employee at the time.

"I'd like to thank the young victim in this case for having the courage to come forward," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said Friday. "I'd also like to thank the jury for carefully considering all of the evidence presented at trial."

Dacanay is next due in court at 9 a.m. on May 2 for sentencing.
