Streamwood Summer Celebration features carnival, parade, hot air balloon rides

"Around the World in 3 Days" is the theme of the 24th annual Streamwood Summer Celebration, set for Friday, July 27, through Sunday, July 29, at Hoosier Grove Park, 700 W. Irving Park Road in Streamwood.

The festival features a full lineup of music, food and children's entertainment. There will be carnival rides, games, bingo, and a beer tent. Admission is free.

New this year will be hot air balloon rides, a K-9 demonstration and a local music showcase.

On the Main Stage, the musical entertainment starts n Friday with Voyage at 5:30 p.m. American English will bring their unique Beatles tribute at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday night entertainment starts with Rosie and the Rivets at 5:30 p.m. and 7th heaven at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, the opening band is Back Country Roads at 3 p.m., followed by ARRA at 5:30 p.m.

The Children's Stage will host a local music showcase at 5:30 p.m. Friday and 6:30 p.m. Saturday. On Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., enjoy a K-9 demonstration by TOPS Kennel.

The annual parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. It will step off at Streamwood Boulevard and Bartlett Road with more than 95 units.

The festival opens at noon Saturday and Sunday. There will be unlimited carnival rides with the purchase of a $20 wristband from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. See the Hoosier Grove Park from new heights on a tethered hot air balloon ride from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Summer Celebration offers bingo all three days sponsored by the St. John's Knights of Columbus. Throughout the festival, visit the Expo Tent to learn about dozens of local businesses and organizations.

Sunday starts out with a golf outing at Streamwood Oaks Golf Club. The shotgun start is at 7:30 a.m. To register, call (630) 483-1881.

Come back to Hoosier Grove Park for more carnival fun and games starting at noon. At 3 p.m., cool off in a Fire Hose Spray by the Streamwood Fire Department.

Summer Celebration closes at 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 p.m. Sunday.

Parking is restricted at Hoosier Grove to handicapped and permit parking. Free shuttle buses are available. Look for the bus stop sign and schedule at the village hall, 301 E. Irving Park Road; Park Place, 550 S. Park Blvd.; and Hanover-Countryside Elementary School, 6 S. Bartlett Road. Buses run on the half-hour from each location, making getting to the festival a breeze.
