No wake status declared for Fox River, Chain O' Lakes

The Fox Waterway Agency in Fox Lake has declared a no-wake status on the Fox River and Chain O' Lakes as a result of rising water levels from heavy rains recently.

The designation will span from the Wisconsin border to the Algonquin dam. No wake means boaters are allowed to travel on the rivers and lakes, but must remain at speeds lower than 5 mph so as to not create a wake behind a boat.

The decision was made by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources after an additional ¾" of rain fell during thunderstorms late Monday into Tuesday. Water levels are expected to crest on the Fox River and Chain O' Lakes later this week, the National Weather Service is forecasting.
