'Through Darkness'
The exhibition "Through Darkness to Light: Photographs Along the Underground Railroad," showcasing works by photographer Jeanine Michna-Bales, opens this weekend at the Bess Bower Dunn Museum of Lake County, 1899 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville. Michna-Bales spent more than a decade researching fugitive slaves and their escape to freedom. The path she documented encompasses about 2,000 miles and includes sites, cities and places freedom-seekers passed through during their journey. $3-$10. Reflections on history
National Geographic Live, a touring series showcasing National Geographic explorers' stories, stops at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 Ida B. Wells Drive, Chicago, where archaeologist Dr. Alicia Odewale examines the Tulsa Race Massacre during her talk on "Greenwood: A Century of Resilience." Known as the Black Wall Street massacre, one of the worst acts of racial violence in American history took place from May 31 to June 1, 1921, in Tulsa, Oklahoma's Greenwood District, where attackers burned and destroyed 35 square blocks of what was one of the country's wealthiest Black communities. $32-$55. Anthrax returns
