Dining out: Derby Day, plus lunch and a show

Derby Day

If you're a fan of the Kentucky Derby, head to The Hampton Social on Saturday, May 7, to enjoy $10 rosé mint juleps, live music and the Kentucky Derby race broadcast from 2-7 p.m. Derby attire is encouraged, as there will be best-dressed and hat contests.

Saying thanks

This week - now through Sunday, May 8 - is National Teacher Appreciation Week, so Potbelly Sandwich Shops is saying thanks to all educators with a free cookie or regular-size drink with the purchase of a sandwich. The same deal will be available for all nurses Friday through Thursday, May 6-12, during National Nurses Week. Teachers and nurses can redeem the offer by showing a valid work ID or badge.

Beverages and burgers

Bar Louie is honoring National Beverage Day (yes, it's a real thing!) from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 6, with drink specials including $4 domestic beers, $5 craft beers and single-pour premium call liquor cocktails, $6 wines by the glass, signature martinis and select premium house cocktails, and half-price select bar bites. Plus, May is National Burger Month, so Bar Louie is offering half-price burgers with fries or tots on Tuesdays throughout the month.

Lunch and a show

Just this week, Stolp Island Social in downtown Aurora added a special brunch/lunch option starting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays when the next-door Paramount Theatre is staging a matinee. Brunch menu options include bourbon French toast ($14), breakfast burrito ($16), avocado toast ($15), the Social Smash Burger ($15), mushroom ricotta cavatelli ($22), filet mignon ($38) and more.
