Dining events: Suburban restaurants fired up for the 4th

Fourth fare

Whether you're planning to spend July 4 out and about or at home, here are some specials that suburban restaurants are cooking up.

On July 4, indulge in the new bacon, cheddar and egg sandwich; mushroom and quinoa burger; avocado and jalapeño toast; honey-butter cinnamon rolls; iced dulce de leche latte and more. On Sunday, brunch is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner is served from 3 to 6 p.m.

Bonefish Grill: 1604 Randall Road, Algonquin, (847) 658-9268, and 180 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg, (847) 534-0679, bonefishgrill.com/. This year, Bonefish Grill will be offering the lobster and shrimp roll garnished with Bang Bang sauce specifically for July 4. The lobster and shrimp rolls can also be ordered as a Family Bundle, which includes a salad, cookies and bread for $49.90. It's available Thursday through Wednesday, July 1-7.

Katie's Kitchen: 623 N. Wolf Road, Des Plaines, katieskitchenonline.com/. If you're having a barbecue on July 4, consider catering. Katie's Kitchen offers a backyard barbecue package that's $13.95 per person for one meat and two sides or $17.95 per person for two meats and three sides, with a minimum of 20 people. A three- to four-day notice is requested.

To celebrate July 4, Kura is offering dorayaki (Japanese-style pancakes) for dine-in only Thursday through Monday, July 1-5, while supplies last. Special flavors include matcha ice cream dorayaki (matcha ice cream and red bean paste filling wrapped in a dorayaki), vanilla ice cream dorayaki (vanilla ice cream and red bean paste in a dorayaki), and red bean and cream cheese dorayaki (red bean paste and cream cheese wrapped in a dorayaki).

If you'll be feeding a crew, consider ordering party platters that feed eight to 10. Order 24 hours in advance of pickup.

With summer flavors in mind, Nando's PERi-PERi recently introduced two new chicken bowls. The Everything's Peachy Bowl features grilled peaches, arugula, roasted red peppers and chicken tenders over Portuguese rice while the Pulled Chicken, Feta and Avo Bowl includes avocado, semi-dried tomatoes, feta and pulled chicken over Portuguese rice. They're both $10.99.

To celebrate the reopening as pandemic restrictions across Illinois loosen, Phat Phat in Schaumburg is offering a new happy hour from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Dine-in specials include sake shots for 89 cents and won ton noodle soup for $4.99 (it's normally $8.50). Plus, the Chinese eatery has added two new dishes to its menu for summer: chicken oregano and sweet and sour fish. Fans of Nashville hot chicken, take note: Fry the Coop is now back open for dine-in at all locations. Besides the Nashville fried chicken sandwich, which comes in six heat levels, the fast-casual restaurant also offers the spicy butter-fried chicken and doughnut fried chicken sandwiches, tenders, chicken and waffles, mac and cheese, fries and more.
