Milk, bread and music: Capital Soiree plays Mount Prospect grocery store show

Public health concerns have limited performance spaces in the area recently, but pop-rock band Capital Soiree — James Kourafas of Chicago, Steven Rejdukowski and Max Romero from Brookfield and McHenry's Dean Sinclair — found an alternative venue for a live show this weekend.

Joining Jewel-Osco for the grocery chain's Celebrate Earth month, the band played for four hours outside the Mount Prospect store Saturday afternoon, drawing some friends and other musicians, as well as patrons who just stopped to see what was going on.

Charlie Steneck and his mom Dayna, of the Palatine area, were driving past and pulled around to hear the music, parking right up front for a large portion of the show.

“We didn't know who they were, but they sounded really good,” Charlie said.

“We followed them on Instagram, and we were streaming them in the car while they took a break,” Dayna added laughing.

Saturday's performance was the second Jewel-Osco show this month for Capital Soiree, following last weekend's in Gurnee.

“There aren't many places open to play right now,” said Sinclair, the band's drummer. “We're just really fortunate we can do something like this.”

Capital Soiree will be releasing a new single on streaming platforms Friday, July 31.
