Huntley church to host 'Boo to Hunger' food drive and Trunk-or-Treat

Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley will hold two special Halloween-themed family events in the church parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 29.

A "Boo to Hunger" food drive to benefit Grafton Food Pantry will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. at the church, 10805 Main St.

Church members will be on hand to provide assistance with accepting items for the food collection drive.

Children from the community are also welcome to wear their Halloween costumes and enjoy the fun during the Halloween Trunk-or-Treat event from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Families and children are encouraged to visit the decorated trunks and collect their treats.

"With a faith-filled spirit," said Mike Yndestad, community outreach chairman at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, "we are proud to provide this 'give and take' effort to spread happiness to families in our community during this fall season."

According to Harriet Ford of the Grafton Food Pantry board, "We are in need of unexpired food items, such as mac and cheese, rice, pasta sauce, baking supplies, pancake syrup, mashed potatoes, stuffing, skillet meals, canned pasta, condiments (salsa, chili sauce, mustard, ketchup, mayo, seasonings), canned chicken and baked beans."

Nonfood items in need include tissues, paper towels, and toilet paper; toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, razors, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products.

Gift/gas cards are very helpful in assisting Grafton Food Pantry clients. Monetary donations are welcome and extend the reach to help others.

With every $1 donation, the Grafton Food Pantry is able to purchase an equivalent of $8 for food to help those in need. Checks should be made payable to Grafton Food Pantry.

The Grafton Food Pantry in Huntley serves individuals in need from Huntley, as well as portions of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and Crystal Lake.
