Bensenville Park District, Fenton host Latino Heritage Month kermes Sept. 24

The Bensenville Park District and Fenton High School are hosting a kermes 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Fenton stadium, 1000 W. Green Street, Bensenville. All are invited to attend, share a meal and learn more about a rich culture.

The kermes will feature activities for the entire family, including traditional Latino dishes, a soccer tournament, 5K race, music and more. Special guests Ballet Folklorico and Revolucion de Amor are scheduled to take the stage in the afternoon.

The event is open to the public and schedule of activities is as follows:

9 a.m. - Food service begins

10 a.m. - 5K Walk/Run

10:30 a.m. - 3-on-3 Soccer Tournament

Noon - Mariachi Band and Ballet Folklorico

3 p.m. - RevoluciĆ³n de Amor

The kermes will feature other family-friendly crafts throughout the day, in addition to a delicious menu of Latino food that includes tacos (carne asada, barbacoa de res, al pastor), gorditas, tamales, sopes, tortas, enchiladas, cochinita, guisado, tacos de canasta, fried tilapia, elotes and chocomilk.

Food and beverage sales are cash only, and event proceeds benefit Fenton High School students.
