Neighbors in the news: New Libertyville hospital names Jennifer Weiss as CEO

• Jennifer Weiss, a licensed physical therapist with 15 years of leadership experience, was named CEO of the future Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute of Libertyville. The 60-bed hospital, under construction at 1201 American Way, is expected to begin caring for patients in March 2022.

Weiss will be responsible for overseeing the hospital's day-to-day operations, as well as patient care and quality. The hospital will provide 24-hour nursing care and physical, occupational and speech therapies to patients recovering from major illnesses and injuries and complex orthopedic conditions.

Weiss, who most recently served in a number of leadership roles at Amita Health in Chicago, holds a bachelor's degree in human development and social policy from Northwestern University, a master's degree in physical therapy from Northwestern University Medical School, and a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern Illinois University.

She is board certified in health care management as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Matt Frank, Economic Development director for the village of Schaumburg, received the Schaumburg Business Association's Leader of the Year Award during its annual Toast of Schaumburg celebration.

The award recognizes a community leader and business champion who exemplifies qualities of visionary leadership and effective communication skills that foster strong business relationships, community involvement and achievements within the business community.

Frank, who has 23 years with the village of Schaumburg, has served as a planner, economic development manager and assistant director of Community Development. His current role as the director of Economic Development requires that he serve as the liaison to the business community and attract business.

He is also responsible for leveraging the tourism industry to create additional opportunities for investment.

Buffalo Grove Park District Commissioners Scott Jacobson and Adriane Johnson received recognition for their milestone years of service to the Buffalo Grove community at the Illinois Association of Park Districts' Best of the Best Awards Gala.

Johnson, who also now serves as the state senator in the 30th District, was recognized for her 10 years on the park board, while Jacobson, who is currently the park board president, was recognized for 20 years of service.

"We have been so fortunate to have the kind of long-term, strong leadership that Scott and Adriane provide," said Buffalo Grove Park District Executive Director Ryan Risinger.

Congratulations to Prospect Heights resident Mareena Mattison, who along with Team Illinois will represent Illinois at the National Olympic Games for Special Olympics. The games will be held in Orlando, Florida, in June.

During her time in Special Olympics, Mattison has been the state and national champion in women's gymnastics multiple times. She was specially trained to be a Global Messenger in 2018.

A John Hersey High School graduate, Mattison attends college and works full time at Osco while continuing to be involved in Special Olympics.
