Anderson Animal Shelter offers virtual summer camp

Anderson Animal Shelter has added some additional topics and another week of virtual summer camp sessions.

These camps are accessible and affordable to all children and teens, with each session costing no more than $10. If you know a child that would like to attend and cannot afford the cost, email c Carrie Frost, humane education manager, at frost@andersonanimalshelter.org.

In "Going Batty" on Monday, July 13, kids can learn about bats and ways that you can help these often misunderstood members of the local ecosystem. Children, ages 6-8, can sign up for the 11 a.m. to noon session and youth, age 9 to 12, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

"Pups, Kits and Nestlings. Oh My!" will be offered Wednesday, July 15. Kids will learn about wildlife babies and how to care for them. The one-hour sessions are available at 12:30 p.m. for children ages 6-8 and 2 p.m. for children ages 9-12.

Investigate the inner workings of neighborhood birds during "Feather, Beaks & Talons" on Tuesday, July 14, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for age 6 to 8 and 2 to 3 p.m. for 9- to 12-year-olds.

Also offered will be "Speak Dog!" where kids can learn about canine communication and how to better understand them. It will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 14, for age 6 to 8, and on Wednesday, July 15, for ages 9 to 12.

Learn all about cat body language and how cats communicate during "Cat Chat" from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, for ages 6 to 8 and again for ages 9 to 12 on Thursday, July 16.

Also on Thursday, July 16, take a virtual "Behind the Scenes Tour at Fox Valley Wildlife Center" for all ages at 12:30 p.m.

For youth, age 13 and older, Anderson Animal Shelter is offering an online camp on "Ethology" from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 16. How often does a squirrel groom? Does a bird sing all day? Campers will learn about the science of animal behavior and perform their own behavioral study.
