CCU Celebrates International Credit Union Day

Waukegan, IL, October 8, 2019: All Consumers Credit Union Service Centers will join 56,000 credit unions around the world to commemorate International Credit Union Day on Thursday, October 17, 2019. Managers and staff at Consumers Credit Union ($1.3 Billion, Waukegan, IL; CCU) will be on-hand to greet Members and the general public. Those visiting a CCU office on Credit Union Day will enjoy a sweet treat while chatting with their local credit union staff.

The theme for this year's celebration is "Local service, global reach." In that spirit, there are 200+ million credit union Members around the world-more than 100 million in the U.S. alone-who now enjoy the many benefits of credit union Membership. Consumers Credit Union joins them in celebration of the not-for-profit cooperative spirit that all credit unions share.

This spirit has led to life-changing opportunities for people all over the world who've wanted to start a small business, own a home or continue their education but were denied access to other financial institutions. In fact, in many parts of the world, people's first taste of democracy is through their credit union, where Members have a vote in their credit union's governing structure.

At its most basic level, a credit union is people pooling their money to provide each other with affordable loans-it is literally people helping people. Over the years, this basic premise has extended to a more comprehensive offering of products and services. This is one of the many reasons Consumers Credit Union celebrates International Credit Union Day: credit unions empower people, wherever they are in the world or in their life, providing them an opportunity to take control of their financial future.

Consumers Credit Union celebrates the occasion from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 17.
