Cook County Health Stresses the Importance of Back-to-School Physicals and Vaccines for Children

As back-to-school season arrives, you may be thinking about a new backpack and all the school supplies that you need to buy for your child. However, what is even more important to add to that back-to-school to-do list is getting your child in for their physical and vaccinations.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and Cook County Health wants to stress the importance of getting your child in for a back-to-school physical and any needed vaccines. With some of the recent measles cases in Cook County, it is even more critical to make sure your child's vaccination record is up-to-date.

Vaccinations provide protection to diseases that can be life-threatening. They help build your child's immune system to be able to fight off infections and diseases that they may encounter at school and being with other children.

Checkups and updated vaccines are also essential for children that go to daycare.
