Cook County Health Reminds Women to Prioritize their Health

It's National Women's Health Week, and Cook County Health wants to remind all women in Cook County to make your health a priority.

The leading cause of death for women in the U.S. today is heart disease, followed by cancer. However, if health issues are found early, this can considerably help your outcome.

It is important to schedule regular checkups with your primary care provider. For women, this includes a Pap smear and getting screened for STDs, if you're sexually active.

Self-care is also an essential practice. Take time to exercise, eat healthy and get plenty of rest. Something simple such as taking a 15-minute walk can help clear your mind and get your heart rate up. Meditation is a helpful practice for your health, too.

Giving up bad habits such as smoking and texting while driving is part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as well.

Take a moment to evaluate your health. If you want to make changes, Cook County Health is here to help. You can contact the health system by calling 312-864-0200 to make an appointment or get connected with services to get your health on the right track.

Don't put your health off, women. Make it a priority. You're worth it.
