Sunrise Seniors Living with Generosity

[HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL, April, 2019] This Easter, children in the Fellowship Housing program will celebrate thanks to the residents of Sunrise Senior Living in Schaumburg. As part of the Live With Generosity program in the senior living community, the residents helped fill 50 thoughtful Easter baskets for each child. Many of the residents also delivered the baskets to Fellowship Housing.

The children and their mothers are a part of Fellowship Housing, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering single moms to build a new legacy through stable housing and financial education. While families are in the program, they commit to living on a very strict budget to help put every dollar toward paying off debt and building a savings account. As part of the strict budget, there isn't space to buy gifts while in our program.

The residents of Sunrise of Schaumburg know how hard the moms work to support their families, and they decided to partake in this project to make Easter special for these families and help the moms stay on budget. Sunrise team members and family members of residents donated items for the baskets, and residents created Easter eggs and filled the baskets with goodies.

This project is one example of the community's Live With Generosity program, in which residents maintain a strong sense of meaning and accomplishment through giving back. Live With Generosity is one of eight activities programs at Sunrise, each of which are designed to enrich the mind, body, and spirit and turn each day into an opportunity to Live With Purpose.

Fellowship Housing empowers single moms to build a new legacy through a two-year transitional housing program focusing on financial education.

Sunrise of Schaumburg will continue supporting Fellowship Housing with other projects throughout the year. For example, Fellowship Housing hopes to bring the children to Sunrise of Schaumburg for an activity to foster intergenerational bonding.
