Two charged in December robbery of adult photo studio near Wheaton
Two men are each being held on $150,000 bail in DuPage County jail, charged with the Dec. 17 robbery of a controversial adult photo studio near Wheaton.
Luke Lee, 19, of Glenview, and Duk Han, 18, of Northbrook, were arrested and charged Thursday after a monthslong investigation. Each faces one count of aggravated robbery with a firearm.
During a bail hearing, Assistant State's Attorney Robert Willis said Lee called Hot Shots on the day of Dec. 17 to make an appointment with two female employees. When Lee arrived around 6 p.m., his debit card was declined so he paid for the $100 appointment with his credit card and showed his driver's license.
Willis said Lee, a freshman at Northern Illinois University, and a female employee of Hot Shots went into a private room for an undisclosed time before Lee told her he needed to make a phone call. A short time later, Han, who works at a Northbrook Steak and Shake, entered the studio with a gun.
Han and Lee ordered both female employees into a private room and took "$7 or $8" from one woman before also stealing a binder containing an undetermined amount of cash from the business and a cellphone belonging to one of the women, authorities said.
Willis said police traced the woman's phone to a trash bin in Arlington Heights and obtained surveillance video from the area showing a silver CRV approaching the bin.
Lee was interviewed by police Thursday, during which time he confessed to the robbery and implicated Han, authorities said. The weapon used in the robbery was found and determined to be an airsoft gun.
Lee, whose parents are expected to post his bail, is next due in court on May 3 for arraignment. Han is scheduled to be arraigned on May 2.
DuPage County prosecutors filed a lawsuit against Hot Shots in February in an attempt to shut the business down, alleging sexual activity inside the premises. That lawsuit is next scheduled to be heard Thursday morning in DuPage.
