District 128 Community Education offers cooking classe

District 128's Community Education program is offering many classes to let aspiring chefs learn some holiday meal recipes and try them out before preparing them for friends and family.

Most classes take place at Libertyville High School, 708 W Park Ave., Libertyville; Stevenson High School, 1 Stevenson Drive, Lincolnshire; or Vernon Hills High School, 145 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.

Community members can register at www.ComEd128.org or call District 128's Community Education office at (847) 247-4576.

Desserts: Join James Beard award-winning chef Gale Gand and learn how to make Perfect Pavlova, an airy meringue-based dessert, or learn how to make chocolate desserts at the Chocolate Sanctuary. Almost Handmade Desserts will provide you with simple variations that will make box recipes better.

• Almost Homemade Desserts, Nov. 2 at LHS.

• Cocoa Corner 105: Truffles, Nov. 8 at The Chocolate Sanctuary, 5101 Washington St., Gurnee.

• Perfect Pavlova, Nov. 9 or 10 at VHHS (A Gale Gand class).

Vegetarian Recipes: Add just a few vegetarian recipes to your meal plan and be prepared for all of your guests.

• Basic Vegetarian and Vegan Cooking: Grains and Beans, Nov. 1 at VHHS.

• Basic Vegetarian and Vegan Cooking: Vegetables, Nov. 15 at VHHS.

Specialty Classes: Go a little crazy with your recipes.

• Caribbean Tapas, prepare and taste Caribbean recipes. Nov. 3 at SHS.

• Cooking with Essential Oils, enhance your recipes with flavorful essential oils. They are a convenient alternative to spices, and their shelf life is much longer than fresh herbs. This program is Nov. 8 at LHS.

• Goat Cheese, join Madeleine as she tells you all about goat cheese and how to serve it Nov. 3 at VHHS.

• Intro to Cheese Making. Learn how to make your own cheese in your own kitchen Nov. 5 or 6 at Perfect Brewing Supply, 619 E. Park Ave., Libertyville.
