Girls volleyball: Palatine, Fremd still even atop MSL West

The battle for a share of first place in the Mid-SuburbanWest girls volleyball standings went to three sets on Thursday in Barrington.

Visiting Palatine, the defending West champion, prevailed 25-27, 25-14, 25-23 as Claire Chaplinsky (9 kills), Haley Holz (7), Beverly Ryan (7) and Brooke Bauer (5) led the attack set by Sydney Christiansen (30 assists).

The Pirates (18-4) improved to 6-1 in the West while Barrington (9-11) slipped to 5-2.

Pirates senior Alyssa Kronberg was 17-of-18 serve receiving and had 15 digs. Ally Fortman 7 and Chaplinsky each added 7 digs.

Gabby Morris (9 kills, 7 digs), Andi Capel (8 kills) and Chloe Layton (15 assists) paced the Fillies (9-11, 5-2).

Fremd d. Conant: Visiting Fremd (12-7, 6-10) remained in a tie for first with Palatine in the MSL West with a 25-18, 25-21victory.

Jess Rizzo and Ysabel Lee each had 5 kills for the Vikes while Bailey Hooker added 3. Natalie Fruend handed out 17 assists. Karolina Sas and Rizzo each had 6 digs. Kailyn Bryk and Jess Mazur had 2 blocks apiece.

Schaumburg (9-11, 2-5) was paced on attack by Mallory Gerber (6 kills). Jordyn Harberts handed out 13 assist and was 10-of-10 serving with 3 blocks. Gabby Paelmo collected 12 digs and made 21 passses while servign 7-of-7.

Conant d. Hoffman Estates: Yuri Hara (7 kills) and Ania Baker (5) were top attackers for visiting Conant (9-12, 2-5) in a 25-13, 25-20 MSL West triumph. Kristina Loznjakovic handed out 15 assists while Michaela Vasalos had 13 digs.

Natalie Pethes (5 kills), Monraia Wilson (4) and Patricia Wadas (2) led the attack for Hoffman (0-19, 0-7). Kathleen Gueco collected 19 assists and Wadas had 21 digs.

Prospect d. Elk Grove: Mary Mazurek (7 kills), Kaela Myers (6), Mandy Withey (5), Meghan Meredith (5) and Maggie Porwit (3) were top attackers fro visiting Prospect (15-6, 4-3) in the 25-11, 25-20 MSL East victory.

Val Thomas (20 digs) served 4 aces and Paige Gerber had 24 assists.

Kendra Gancarz added 9 digs while top blockers were Withey (3), Meredith (2) and Aly Makuch (1).

The Grenadiers (4-18, 0-7) received 7 kills from Isabel Michniak and 5 from Rachel Kandefer (3 blocks). Mary Cronin handed out 14 assists. Michniak (16) and Jenny Banak (11) led in blocks.

Rolling Meadows d. Buffalo Grove: Visiting Rolling Meadows (16-10, 4-3) posted a 25-17, 25-19 MSL East win as Katie Zanocco (7 kills), Maddie Sellergren (7), Kyra Amundson (6) and Madeline Rebsamen (3) led the Mustangs' offense.

Sellergren served 3 aces while Natalie Klancnik (14 assists) and Mallory King ( 4 assists) set the offense. Eleanor Errico led Meadows with 3 blocks.

Kim Barton had 6 kills for BG (3-14, 1-6) while Lindsey Prommer and Kanella Kalyviaris each had 2. Hannah Schuler handed out 8 assists.

Marian Catholic d. St. Viator: Catherine Hickey (4 kills), Kendall Claffey (4), Kate Nottoli (3) and Katie Kerrigan (2) led St. Viator (13-13, 0-4) in the ESCC match won by host Marian Catholic 25-17, 25-21.

Michaela Mueller was 57-of-59 setting with 12 assists and Carrie Leazer (3 aces) had 20 digs for St. Viator.

Oak Park River Forest d. Leyden: OPRF posted a 25-13, 25-20 triumph over Leyden, which was led by senior setter Autumn McGee (5 kills) and senior middle hitter Jennifer Parker (3 kills).
