Championship trophies coming to Bulls/Sox Academy in Lisle

The Bulls/Sox Youth Academy in Lisle is celebrating its 15th anniversary this month with a pair of open houses aimed at fans of both teams.

On Saturday, Bulls fans can take pictures with the team's six world championship trophies from 9 a.m. until noon at the academy, 6200 River Bend Drive. Former Bulls guard and current Comcast SportsNet broadcaster Kendall Gill will be on hand from 11 a.m. until noon and be available for photos and autographs. Benny the Bull, the team mascot, will be on hoof from 10 to 11 a.m.

Youngsters who attend also can show their stuff in several skills competitions for autographs and prizes, including tests of ballhandling, shooting and driving to the hoop.

White Sox fans, meanwhile, can take pictures with the 2005 World Series trophy from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the academy. Former Sox players Dan Pasqua and Michael Huff will be there, too, and Southpaw will take on other area baseball team mascots in a Home Run Derby from 11:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Youngsters at the Sox open house also can compete in hitting, throwing and base running contests.
