Willow South Lake Church holds World Food Fair

On May 29, Willow South Lake Church in Lincolnshire celebrated the diverse community that has been brought together at the new church by holding its first World Food Fair.

Even the weather cooperated, as an estimated 400 church attendees got together to sample foods from around the globe, including America, the Philippines, Mexico, Korea, India and China.

The menu included a variety of homemade creations from church members - from America: jambalaya and beans and rice; from the Philippines: lumpia, turon and kutsinta; from Mexico: chicken enchiladas, tamales and guacamole and chips; from South Korea: lakota, mandoo and japchae; from India: chicken tikka and green chutney; and from China: egg tart, lamb sticks, spring rolls and eight treasure rice.

Several large inflatables were available for the children to bounce in. A volleyball net was also set up for those wishing for a little friendly competition.

In addition to the World Food Fair, the church has recently held several quarterly multicultural nights. These are small group meetings of 30 to 50 church attendees who get together to discuss how to continue to grow and support the diversity in the church.

Lead Pastor Matt Wright put together a panel of church members to lead the group in discussions around the different dynamics facing first, second and third generation immigrant families. A potluck dinner preceded the meetings.

The church, 625 Barclay Blvd., Lincolnshire, is the newest regional campus of Willow Creek Community Church of South Barrington. Willow South Lake offers services weekly at 9 and 11 a.m. Sundays.
