Bookends Theater to present '25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee'

On May 20-22, Bookends Theater will present "The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee" musical at St. John's United Church of Christ-Harmony, 11821 E. Grant Hwy., Hampshire. Six awkward spelling champions learn that winning (and losing) isn't everything. Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, it has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. A family-friendly but riotous ride complete with audience participation, it is delightful den of musical comedic genius.

Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22. Doors open 30 minutes before show time. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the door. There is no assigned seating but advance tickets can be purchased by calling (224) 623-3825.

The church is at the corner of Huntley Road and Route 20, just west of the I-90 Hampshire/Marengo exit. For information, call the church office at (815) 923-4263 or visit www.stjohnsuccharmony.com.
