Stanton School in Fox Lake recently participated in the Pennies for Patients program and raised $2,169.64 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, proving every penny really does count.

LLS is the largest voluntary cancer research agency specifically focused on finding cures and better treatments for blood cancer patients. With the scope and scale to fund many projects at the same time, LLS supports hundreds of cancer scientists around the world.

Stanton's Pennies for Patients efforts are organized by the student council under the direction of Liz Andersen and Beth Rendon.

"The students at Stanton should all be very proud of their efforts because with every penny they donated, they helped save lives of cancer patients," Andersen said.

Diana Olson's fifth-grade class earned a pasta lunch from The Olive Garden for raising the most funds.

In second place, receiving a Gold Pennant, was Kristen Arndt's class.
