Softball: Big day for Bihun, Conant

Conant 15, Hoffman Estates 2 (5 inn.): Morgan Bihun jogged around the bases three time in a most memorable performance on Monday.

Conant's junior third baseman (3-for-4) belted a grand slam and had two 3-run homers for 10 RBI in the Cougars' 15-2, five-inning win over Hoffman Estates in Mid-Suburban League softball.

Other top hitters for the Cougars (8-1, 4-0) were Lauren Grzelak (2-for-3, double, 2 runs, RBI), Jackie Burchfield (3-for-3, double, 3 runs, 2 RBI) and Makenna McCarthy (2-for-3, double).

Sara Neuman (6-0) worked the first four innings for the win, striking out ten and giving up 2 hits. Jac Carlucci struck out one in one inning.

Brynn Connelly (1-for-2, 1 run) and Jordyn Fera (1-for-2, double RBI) led Hoffman (3-7, 1-4).

Elk Grove 7, Prospect 2: Sarah Pauscher belted her fifth home run of the season and Alex Masnica went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the visiting Grens (9-1, 3-1).

Anna Bonder (double) and Jessica Kearns (RBI) each went 2-for-4 for EG while teammate Carly Crothers had a triple.

Junior Kylie Thomsen (4-1) struck out ten as the winning pitcher.

Lindsey Lecomte had an RBI double for Prospect (2-7, 0-4) and Lauren Caldrone hit a solo homer.

"I thought Kylie Thomsen was excellent," said Prospect coach Jim Adair. "She kept us off balance all night. We need to shore up our defense a bit. "I thought Delilah (Malczewski, Prospect pitcher) really battled."

Hersey 14, Wheeling 1 (5 inn.): Jackie Bednar (3-for-4, 2 doubles, RBI), Makayla Tsagalis (4-for-4), 3 RBI), Hannah Graff (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Katie Wingerter (2-for-4, 6 RBI, home run, double) and Kaitlyn Denten (double) led the offense for visiting Hersey (4-5, 2-2) in the MSL East contest.

Junior Sofia Cano (1-0) earned the win, throwing a 1-hitter with 4 strikeouts in 5 innings.

Senior Christie Ambrose had the hit for Wheeling (0-6, 0-4).

Barrington 3, Palatine 1: Carly Kordich (2-for-3, 1 run) and Abbey Jacobsen (2-for-3) led host Barrington (13-1, 4-0) in the MSL West.

Senior Rachel Macdonald, Jenna Fingerman and Annie Leiding each had a hit for the Fillies, who received a 5-hitter and 7 strikeouts from sophomore Catherine McMahon (10-1).

Sophomore pitcher Sarah Grossman had a RBI single in the fourth inning for the Pirates (3-6, 3-2).

Rolling Meadows 11, Buffalo Grove 1 (5 inn): Mallory King, Paige Connor and Sara Benner (home run) each had 2 hits for Rolling Meadows, which improved to 8-5 and 1-3 in the MSL East.

Amanda Elkins doubled for Meadows while Mustangs pitcher Lydia Schultz (7-4) earned the win.

Sophomore Olivia Morini had a pair hits for the Bison (2-9, 0-4) and freshman Jacqueline Bickhaus had one.

Fenwick 8, St. Viator 7: St. Viator (6-4, 0-1) scored 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh to just fall short to visiting Fenwick in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

The Lions had the winning run on base when the game ended.

Adeline Swiderski had 3 hits and 3 RBI for Viator while teammate Grace Kaiser also had 3 RBI on 2 hits. Cam VanValkenburg doubled for the Lions.
