Officials: Man seriously injured by falling tree in McHenry

A man was seriously injured in McHenry Saturday when a tree he was cutting down fell on him, fire officials said.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was called about at 5:16 p.m. to the 4900 block of West Flanders Road. About six minutes later, responders found a man lying on the ground next to the tree, according to a fire protection district news release.

He was taken by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, officials said; his condition wasn't immediately known Saturday night.

The McHenry County sheriff's department is investigating.
