O'Hare victim of political hacks

Wednesday's unmitigated air travel disaster at O'Hare International Airport, six hour delays and countless hundreds of flight cancellations, stands as the quintessential case study in political cronyism totally void of realistic planning or qualified operational expertise.

Devouring $9 billion to date while headed towards an unsustainable $15 billion price tag, this ill-advised "modernization" project's most noteworthy, egregious fraud rests in its $560 million south runway/tower complex to be utilized just 2 percent of the time, much to the chagrin of the 620 families evicted from their Bensenville homes to consummate its construction.

At best dysfunctional, while borderline dangerous at times, the O'Hare Modernization Plan destroyed a once-proud and exceptionally efficient airport operation dutifully designed and expertly choreographed by professional pilots and dedicated, career air traffic controllers. Without question, nationwide air travel stands as the unwitting victim of the smug arrogance of political hacks in an unprecedented travesty of modern aviation.
