Child in womb is 'alive and kicking'

From a recent letter to the editor: "Now, if men had the babies it would be an altogether different story: there would be abortion clinics on every corner, middle of the block and in the back room of every sports bar." No, that's not true ... at least, not regarding all men.

Oh sure, the same ones that look upon women today as no more than objects for satiating their desire for sex anytime, anywhere, no doubt that bunch would be pushing for clinics everywhere. Of course, it would be entirely self-serving, and these men would care not a bit about the women they use for their own sexual pleasure. Their prime concern is unaccountability for the end result of their actions.

Also from that letter: "After all even the Bible says life begins at first breath - Genesis 2:7." As is the case so often, here a quote is used entirely out of context. That passage talks of God creating the first human (Adam, or whatever anyone might want to call him). Adam was "shaped from the soil of the ground." I would suggest to the letter writer that if she wants to believe that no one is alive until they breathe, then maybe she, too, should create her children "from the soil of the ground." Then she could "blow life into his/her nostrils" and thus bring her child into life, just as God did.

If she wants to produce a child via the more traditional methods, then perhaps she should pay more attention to modern science. It is more than clear that a child in the womb is "alive and kicking" long before it begins breathing the free air.
