Death at Fox Lake tavern under investigation

Authorities are investigating the death of a Spring Grove man at a bar in downtown Fox Lake.

David A. Scheck, 50, was pronounced dead after he apparently fell down a flight of stars at the Fifty K Sports Pub at 50 Grand Ave., Lake County Sheriff's Det. Chris Covelli said.

Police and rescue crews were called to the sports pub at 8 p.m. Oct. 17 for a man who was found unresponsive, Covelli said. He said Scheck was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was performed Oct. 19, Covelli said, but the official cause of death is pending final toxicology results.

Covelli said it appears alcohol was a factor and that witnesses reported seeing Scheck drinking at multiple establishments before being found dead that evening.

The case is under investigation and additional details would be released at a later time, Covelli said.
