Socialized medicine is un-American?

It's interesting that many of our Republican presidential candidates refer to Ronald Reagan as their idol. It was President Reagan who saw Medicare as the advance of socialism and railed against it.

Yet he and his Capitol Hill cronies reaped the benefits of that health care system for years, and so did all the administrations.

If the conservative tenet implies that socialized medicine is un-American, what does that say about presidents and some of our candidates?
