Hersey, Prospect still tied for East lead

Defending Mid-Suburban League girls volleyball champion Hersey remained in a first-place tie with Prospect in the East by topping host Elk Grove 25-9, 25-16 on Thursday night.

The Huskies (13-5, 4-0) were led on attack by seniors Katie Rozanski and Liz Fuerst, who each had 7 kills.

"Katie had a great match with an outstanding hitting performance (7-of-7 with every hit being a kill)." said Hersey coach Nancy Lill. "She was dominant at the net with 5 block kills."

Hersey's Gianna Carusiello broke the game open with outstanding service. She had 3 aces as the Huskies went on a 10-point run in Set 1.

Amy Morgan added 4 kills for the winners while Zoe Strozewski amd Carly Chiodo added 2 apiece.

Maggie Reisel (7 assists) and Emma Strozewski (13 assists) set the offense.

Prospect d. Rolling Meadows: Led by on attack by Brenda Kendziera (6 kills), Mary Mazurek (6), Maggie Porwit (4) and Kaeli Myers (3), Prospect improved to 9-4 and 4-0 in the MSL East with a 25-21, 25-17 victory in Mt. Prospect. Michelle Haaning handed out 15 assists while Nikki Giammarino had 16 digs for the Knights against the Mustangs (14-6-1, 2-2).

Fremd d Hoffman Estates: Led by juniors Sara Ganas and Ysabel Lee who each had 8 kills, visiting Fremd posted a 25-16, 25-6 victory to raise its record to 11-7 and 1-3 in the MSL West.

Natalie Freund collected 12 assists and Becca Stapleton had 4 blocks for the Vikes.

Jennifer Nailor had 3 kills for Hoffman (0-4).

Wheeling d. Buffalo Grove: Junior Timber Terrell put down 15 kills and junior Michaela Vasey added 8 as the host Wildcats posted a 25-18, 22-25, 25-22 victroy in the MSL East.

Wheeling (4-13, 2-2) also received 15 digs and 4 aces from Vasey while teammate Annalisa Baranowski had 5 aces.

Maine West d. Highland Park: The visiting Warriors (7-11, 3-0) netted a 25-16, 25-17 Central Suburban North victory as Allison Grzebien led the way with 8 kills, 11 digs, 2 aces and 2 blocks.

Sophia Saldana recorded a team-high 12 digs for West while teammate Hannah Kuhn had 9.

St. Viator d. Harvest Christian: The host Lions improved to 15-10 with a 25-17, 25-18 victory.

Alyssa Forbes (7 kills), Danielle Latzera (7), Gabi Thomas (4), Audrey Nuelle (3) and Emily Hayes (2) led the attack for Viator. Michaela Mueller (72-of-73) handed out 20 assists while Ellie Meyer led the Lions' back row with 22 digs.

Hinsdale Central d Leyden: Hinsdale Central recorded a 25-21, 15-25, 25-21 victory over visiting Leyden (12-6, 2-2) which was led by Emily Steininger (9 kills) and Patrycja Strzeminska (7 kills, 2 aces).

Christian Liberty d. IMSA: Emily Naubert (10 aces, 5 kills) and Lexi Lee (6 kill) paced Christian Liberty to a 15-25, 25-13, 25-13 triumph.
