Kramer sisters win Schaumburg's Got Talent

Sisters Ashley and Carly Kramer were named the overall winners of Schaumburg's Got Talent.

The sisters danced in pointe shoes to an instrumental version of Lady Gaga's “Monster” at the Aug. 9 talent show at the Community Recreation Center. The annual competition, organized by the Schaumburg Park District, featured solo and group magic, singing, dancing and comedy acts.

The show marked the debut of the longtime dancers in pointe shoes.

Ashley, 12, is a seventh grader at Robert Frost Junior High School and has been dancing since she was 17 months old. Carly, 14, is a freshman at Conant High School and has been dancing since she was 3 years old. Both girls started dance lessons at the District in 2011 and pointe lessons less than a month before the performance.

They were inspired to perform in pointe shoes after attending the talent show for three years. The sisters had never seen classic ballet or a pointe piece so they wanted to be the first act in the show to try it. The song and dance, choreographed by dance instructor Keri Dahm, were chosen due to the unique combination. The selection was a standout for the judges and audience.

The sisters, who competed in the multi-generational category, beat contestants in four other age categories. Their win was determined by a combination of the judges' votes and online voting at parkfun.com.

“Thank you for voting,” said Carly. “We had so much fun doing the show.”

This year's category winners included Maya Chandrasekaren, Samantha Erne, Michael Lin, Melissa Wickland and Rod Marino.

The full show can be seen on WSPD-TV and parkfun.com.
